Christmas Sweaters

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

People are bustling about. There are Christmas parties to attend and potlucks to cook for. It's a great time for holiday fun...

In the midst of all this, there's often quite a lot going on inside of us, and it can be hard to keep up. On the outside we pull it all off - sometimes marvelously and sometimes just by a Christmas sweater thread. On the inside, our brains begin managing the ups and downs like a ball of yarn, and we can't always find the beginning or end.

In my practice, this time of the year, I see this happening a lot. I actually experience this myself personally, but I definitely notice it with my clients. Here are a few ways to help cure the holiday mayhem.

- Counting breath: This is a meditative technique I learned from the Headspace app. It helps draw me into the present moment and gain clarity.
- Go for a walk: I find that walking helps me not only naturally reflect on my external surroundings but also on my internal environment. If I'm feeling stressed, walking helps me direct my energy into physical work. This helps avoid directing the stressful energy inward.
- Think about your nervous system! Of course, the chiropractor would go there. Well, it's kind of my job to remind you folks. Your nervous system is integrating everything you come into contact with, so it's a good idea to keep it in check!

This holiday season, take time to unwind that ball of yarn in your head and do some mindful knitting! If you give time to yourself, you will give a fuller expression of yourself to others.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!!
