Reflections in Self-Care

If you have been following along you will know that during the month of February, we have been focusing on conversations around self-care.

I LOVE this topic for a lot of reasons, and self-care looks very different from person to person. Some people may really respond well to a massage, where someone else may feel more nourished from a quiet morning with a book and a cup of coffee. One main reason Erin and I wanted to highlight self-care this month is because it is a commonly neglected theme among my clients and friends I run into.

An overwhelming realization I found in the midst of opening this topic of conversations is that many people do not like asking for help, and that includes asking themselves for help. Have you ever heard the saying, “I’m my own worst critic?” This is a contributing factor that we need to take seriously if we are truly going to grow. Why? Because we have to get out of our own way. We have to give ourselves permission to achieve, get out of our comfort zone, and act, but also to rest, reflect, and slow down (sometimes stop!).

What will happen if we do ask for help?

The world will find out we are vulnerable and smash us like bugs?? Noooo, we are much more likely to receive!! It’s that simple! In fact, a good example of this is the giveaway we did this month. I went to local businesses and asked if they’d like to take part. Many of these businesses offered to donate gift cards. I honestly felt vulnerable going in and asking for help, but you know what’s more important? The principle that I set out to do something to connect my community. I needed to respect my commitment to that! And because I did, a bunch of you were able to benefit from that!

See? Totally. Worth it.

This year, we have been trying out themes each month. These are fun because of this process of exploration, focus, and reflection. Next month, we are focused on giving. Either way, as you know, we are always looking for ways to bring value to our community and clients because we truly believe in connecting people to the value hidden inside all of us!

One new thing that Novel is doing is starting a women’s mindfulness group called “mindgarden”. This group will create a space for women to grow practice mindfulness by doing activities together like hikes, crafting, and workshops. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram or sign up for weekly emails on our website to keep up with what’s new!

See you next month!
