Christmas Baby!
So… we are having a baby!
How do we feel?
Well, I’m sure you can imagine, there’s tons of excitement and anticipation as we welcome this new little life into our world. Match that with the feelings of pressure and wanting to be “good enough” to provide and be good parents (even though we have never done this before).
Sounds easy right?
This new stage in our life is sure to bring with it challenges and rewards like we have never imagined. But if you really want to know how I feel — I’m just so dang curious to see what this new little human being is going to be like!
Heck, we don’t even know the gender yet! So much mystery!
It’s interesting to think about bringing a kid into this world. As children, it’s not like we get to pick our parents. That’s probably a good thing, to not always be able to choose your circumstances because that challenge never changes in life. We often don’t have control of our circumstances and the “what happens” or “will happen” to us, but we do have control over our perspective.
That’s certainly been on my mind as we approach this season because in one hand I have a practice and business to run which can be challenging — and on the other hand — I’m going to be a Dad!
So I could choose to be stressed, and focus on the negative aspects of what challenges like this bring, or I could be okay with the uncertainty and focus on enjoying the journey!
I say this because I know for a lot of people the holiday season can be a time of stress and pressure, with good and bad feelings all wrapped into one.
If that’s you, you are not alone!
I have been thinking about this baby, and if there’s one thing I am certain of it is this - I am going to come face to face with my limits. I will have to figure out how to adapt, and I know at times, I will be unsuccessful. We all have to be okay with trying and failing and continuing to maintain hope. This holiday, I ask that you join with me in anticipating with excitement the newness of what we will gain from facing our challenges.
Why? Because life is worth it!
It’s worth it when we work through challenging family matters during the holidays. It’s worth it when it comes to my clients committing to a life of wellness. It’s worth it when it comes to Erin and me bringing in the new life of Baby Collins. It’s worth it for all of us!
